Question 1

What is electrostatic spray painting?

Accepted Answer

Electrostatic spray painting gives the paint an electrical charge as it leaves the gun while the metal item is earthed. The charged particles are drawn to the surface and wrap around edges and the backs of rails, giving an even coat with far less overspray than conventional spraying, so items can be refinished in place.

Question 2

What can be electrostatically painted?

Accepted Answer

Most metal items in a building can be refinished in place, including lift doors and lift cars, balustrades, handrails, window and door frames, lockers, filing cabinets, metal partitions, fire doors and shopfronts. It suits occupied offices, schools, hospitals, retail and strata buildings where removing items for workshop coating is impractical.

Question 3

How disruptive is electrostatic painting?

Accepted Answer

Disruption is kept low. Because overspray is minimal, masking is light and work can usually continue around occupied areas, often after hours or on weekends. Items are cleaned, prepared and coated where they stand, so most are back in use the same or next day rather than leaving the building for days.

Question 4

How durable is an electrostatic finish?

Accepted Answer

Durability depends mainly on preparation. We clean, degrease and abrade each surface, apply a suitable primer where needed and finish in coatings selected for the substrate and use, working to AS/NZS 2311 and AS/NZS 2312. Properly prepared, the result is a hard-wearing finish rather than a short-term cosmetic fix.
